The Start Of A Very Good Thing

I am now the proud owner of a beautiful jeweler's saw & a sturdy little bench pin.

Thursday afternoon was my first silversmithing course. Our first lesson was an introduction to the course, followed by learning basic metal sawing techniques. I sawed two little pieces from a brass sheet (and only broke two saw blades in the process).

B a b y s t e p s .

This afternoon while Gretchen napped I cut a square from a sheet of a nickel alloy & a circle from a sheet of copper.

I love this already.

Next Thursday we'll be learning more metal forming techniques, like using a doming punch and dapping block, as well as texturing with hammers.

On Friday I ordered some delightful new implements from Romazone, a supply shop that I found on Etsy. They should be arriving early this week -- gorgeous hammers, a ring clamp, stamps & more.

I am so excited about next Thursday's class.

More soon, mes amis. As for now I think we're going to take a walk downtown to procure some coffee beans from the local roaster. Delicious.

Sounds fun. I am learning to take things in baby steps too.

Glad to hear your first class went well! I took a basics class( sawing, piercing, solder safety etc) and was hooked from the first 10 minutes lol
Looking forward to hearing more about it!
