The Day She Fell Asleep Without Me

For the second time today, Gretchen fell asleep & didn't wake up when I transferred her to our bed for a nap. This morning she didn't need me to nurse her to sleep & just now, when I laid down, she didn't need me to nurse her down.

She didn't need me. Oh my word.

She usually likes me to lay with her for a while & nurse until she drifts off and I sneak away and close the door softly behind me. Has she slowly built herself up to being self sufficient when i comes to napping? I think I might be 1/2 excited & 1/2 offended. She actually didn't need me to fall asleep.

Four & a 1/2 months old and growing up so fast.
Mama has needs too, little one.
Stay small just a little while longer.

(I love this jumper so much I can't bring myself to put anything on her.)

My little girl (16 weeks) fell asleep without my help earlier this week.. I was so proud and yet, something inside me panicked -- does she still need me?! I need to be needed!

awww! she's becoming a tiny little big girl! that's great that she fell asleep on her own! it must be hard when you start to realize your children don't need you as much anymore. but i guess that's the job of parents - do the best they can to send their children out into the world to live good lives. don't worry though - she's going to need you for a very long time still! and even when she doesn't "need" you, she'll still need you. :)

she's such a sweet little sleeper, and i still love that jumper. :)

So true, Jasmine. I hope she'll always need me in someway -- either way I have quite a few years of her under my roof, so I'll ENJOY THEM!

:)

Much love.

my little girlie has fallen asleep on her own before, but lately she needs me (15.5 wks) and I am just ok with that...

It's good to know they are ok on their own sometimes, but it will always feel good to be needed :)

I remember my babes doing that...it doesn't last. She will need you and you will become the human pacifer soon enough :)
My little one (who is attached as I type this) was doing so great until about 5 months and now she wakes up after 30 minutes if I am not right there by her.
She still needs you Mama :)

She is so beautiful, my goodness! I hear you, though, they do grow up quickly and when start needing us less and less (in however small a capacity it may be...) it's really bittersweet, to say the least.

Reading your blog (& Marvelous Kiddo) makes me look forward to the days when I am ready to have my own children.
Thank you for that :)

Wow, that's impressive. My youngest is 2.5 years and I am just now able to start sneaking away without her waking up.

Love the pic, so cute!
