Felt Board Nostalgia

A few weeks ago I managed to thrift an item which epitomized a good part of my childhood -- a felt board!

This particular board is the exact same design as the one I remember playing with when I was a little girl. On one side there's a green chalkboard, and on the reverse, orange felt.

I don't have any felt pieces to use with the board yet, but I'm on the lookout -- or better yet, I'd actually like to make the pieces myself. I hope Gretchen enjoys creating scenes out of felt as much as I did!

Have any of you ever made felt pieces for a board like this? Any suggestions for patterns, specific materials or technique?

Check out this website:

http://www.3hcraftworks.com/site/about.shtml - it's a company out of Vancouver that works with disabled adults, and they make fantastic "felt story" packages, at very reasonable prices.

Enjoy! What an excellent find!

I used to have the same chalk board as a kid. I hope Gretchen has fun with it. I'd cut out little animals out of felt. Like elephants or HER favorite animal right now, she could make a zoo?

ohh i had a felt board! my mom made it. She just stretched and stapled a huge piece over a piece of wood. It was 6 foot wide (or so it seemed). She cut out a ton of figures for me as well. I remember the horses and other parts of the farm scene, there were fish too. I played with that thing for hours.

Wow this brings back long forgotten memories. A good way to make felt animals etc - in google images type in whatever animal you are after and 'silhouette'. It will give you a nice easy outline to cut around.
