The Tuesday Diptych Project: Week Three

Johanna (top): I took this picture today when I was out for lunch with my cousin Julia. We went to an old Ottawa favourite of mine, The Wild Oat. Just as we were leaving I saw this shelf in the window with stacks of bowls on it. I thought that they looked lovely all lined up and organized into random groupings. Seeing these simple bowls ready to be used reminded me of the work, time, care and love that goes into preparing a meal. Cooking and eating goes beyond necessity for me, it is about nourishment, healing, sharing, comfort and sustainment. Its about an experience, right from chopping vegetables, to simmering soup in a pot, to setting the table and then sitting down to enjoy that meal with loved ones. And for me, this picture sums up those feelings that I have about the experience of good food.

Desiree (bottom): This week an old friend came back into my life. My Winter & Company Musette is now back in my possession. For years I've been an apartment dweller, moving here and there, never really in a permanent place, and rarely on a main floor where a piano could easily be relocated. And so, my beloved Musette has been waiting for the day when I would be still enough for her to join me. Now that day has come. My little family and I have no intentions of leaving our sweet, blue East City home for a long, long time. Our lives will change, shift & transform over the next few years, I'm sure, but our home sweet home shall be our constant. We're exactly where we want to be.

I love these 2 photos together - somehow ghostly romantic, although I don't think that was the intent.

Food & music is what I take from this week's Tuesday Diptych!
