This morning Ryan woke up a couple minutes before me to find that Gretchen wasn't in our room.
Where was she? Downstairs in the office, playing quite happily by herself.
How long had she been out of bed? We have no idea.
Needless to say, once I was fully conscious - just as Ryan was bringing her back upstairs to tell me what he'd discovered - my heart nearly stopped.
Since her 1st birthday she's been really good at going up and down the stairs (thankfully), but I still make sure I'm there with her every single time she wants to practice. We've also been making sure our bedroom door is closed at night -- until last night when Ryan accidentally left it open.
Apparently we've got an independent & adventurous little babe on our hands.
I'm sure this will have some people questioning cosleeping or bedsharing, and some will be shaking their heads as they put our parenting abilities into question, but I suppose that's just the way the cookie crumbles. I knew I needed to share this story for any mamas out there who have ever had a similar experience. Isn't that why we blog? To share & to commiserate? To support & to learn? Yes.
And so I'll continue to write honestly, because it's the only way I know how.
