This Story Has A Happy Ending

On Thursday, this little guy flew THUD into our living room window.

He laid very still for a while, with one wing stretched to the side and all I could think was "how am I going to put this poor thing out of its misery without traumatizing myself?" Not a happy thought.

However, after calling both my mother & grandmother for their advice, the little bird tucked in his wing, stood up slowly, and eventually flew away to join his pals in the sumac. I think this is the first time I've ever seen a bird "walk" away from a window incident. It was amazing. And heartwarming. And now I have to find some decals to put on the window so it never, never, never happens again.

Fingers crossed.

Have you witnessed any small miracles lately?

We've had a few instances where the cat has brought in a bird through the cat door and its hurt itself trying to fly through the windows to get out. I always end up trapping them in a shoebox and driving the poor little thing out to a bird sanctuary that looks after small injured creatures. I'm glad that yours recovered all by himself!

Oh wow! That's so nice that you have a place you can bring them! We don't have a bird place here, but there is a turtle rescue center that fixes up the poor little guys that get thwacked by cars and such!

That thud just stops your heart! But, its definitly a good sign that the little birdie flew off after what happened!!

I saw a bird fly into a window during a photo shoot once and it was very sad..... he wobbled around in a daze for a long time and then croaked.

Sad times.

I say you get a bunch of black bird decals for the window-or maybe that would attract a bird? Just thinking it would make for a good conversation piece.

Awe, yeah I think I will definitely get some sort of pretty decal for the window.... time to look on Etsy!

Aww i'm glad this had a happy ending. My cat managed to catch a bird (i lived on the 2nd floor and had a screened in porch? i guess it got in a hole?) so needless to say i started screaming when i came home to find her with it in the middle of my living room floor... last thing I'd ever expect to see.. was really upsetting... my neighbor heard me screaming and i had to have him get it, I couldnt bear :(

Awe, so sad. My cats have brought me dead things before... like mice and birds. I guess they think it's a present... I appreciate the sentiment, but yeah, sad :(

my grandmother had a canary, "peter", that she would let roam about her house as she cleaned his cage.

one day she felt a little "crunch" under her foot and heard a little "peep" as she walked across her living room floor. immediatly she lifted her foot to allow poor peter to fly away - directly into her large picture window.

poor little guy was dead on impact, and it all happened from the inside out.

Oh gosh that is awful.

And now I have to mention a terrible tale -- when I was little I stepped on my pet budgie & his eye popped out. My mother's boyfriend had to kill it :( It was SO traumatic. Coudln't sleep for months. Yikes :(

OMG - this happened to me awhile ago. I did a post on it b/c I was so traumatized. My birdie wasn't as successful in flying away. He had already passed. So sad :( xo

Sorry to hear, Shannon :( It's just so heartbreaking!

I was just going to mention the poor little budgie. I STILL think about that to this day. It was awful. :( And now I'm thinking about the time I dropped one of your puppies. >_< Oh jeez... You yelled at me so bad. Haha. He turned out okay though. :) Were those Piglets puppies?

I have some serious ADHD brain going on today... :P
